Yesterday's bitcoin optech featured an unusual story about something that was always likely to happen - someone losing money due (probably) to unwise decisions in setting up a node with a hot wallet on AWS:


@waxwing I wouldn't (suggest to) setup a node on AWS, but it seems the main problem is using a prefabricated image setup and probably root-kit-ed by someone else.

@FreePietje Indeed it seemed that way from reading the reddit thread, but to be fair it wasn't entirely proven that that was the vector, though .. I'd bet on it, I guess.
